Why I’m Not Your Average Sleep Consultant

And Why That Matters for Your Family

When most people hear the words sleep consultant, they imagine someone who sits behind a screen, sends over a generic schedule, and tells you to stick to it — no matter what.

But that’s not me. And that’s never been how I work.

I’m With Babies Every Day, Not Just On Paper

I trained at Norland because I knew from an early age that if I was going to care for children, I wanted to do it to the highest possible standard.

Norland gave me the foundation to support children in real homes understanding their routines, their environments, their families and responding to each child as an individual.

I still bring that same approach to sleep support today.

Unlike many sleep consultants who only offer virtual support, I spend my days and nights with children. In homes. With families. Guiding real routines, holding overtired babies, and helping parents find what actually works not just what’s in a book.

Even when I work virtually, I bring that experience into every session. If I wouldn’t do it with a baby in my arms, I won’t suggest it to a parent on a call.

I Don’t Believe in Letting Babies Cry It Out

Let’s be clear:
Sleep doesn’t come from leaving babies to cry until they give in.

Babies don’t just learn sleep they feel it.
They feel it in your tone, your rhythm, your presence. And when they feel safe, calm, and connected… sleep comes much more easily.

That’s why I focus on sleep routines that support regulation and relationship. I help families create calming wind-downs, predictable rhythms, and a sleep space that feels secure.

There’s no one-size-fits-all. Every plan is tailored, responsive, and rooted in what I know works from real experience not just theory.

A Real Story from a Family Like Yours

Recently, I supported a lovely family with a 12-month-old girl who had never slept through the night.

She was waking every couple of hours and relying on being fed or rocked to resettle. Mum and Dad were exhausted, unsure what else to try and hesitant about the idea of “sleep training.”

But once they understood my approach no cry-it-out, no rigid rules they felt ready to move forward.

We made some simple changes together, focusing on consistency, comfort, and confidence. And by the end of the week, their little one was settling peacefully at bedtime and waking just once to feed.

More than anything, the parents felt calm again. They knew what to expect, and so did she.

That’s the kind of transformation I love. Not perfect nights but peaceful ones.

What Makes My Support Different

  • I’ve worked as a Norland Nanny for years with hands-on experience, not just training

  • I never use cry-it-out or leave-baby-alone methods

  • Every family gets a personalised plan rooted in what’s actually happening at home

  • I offer both in-person and virtual support and I bring the same care to both

  • If I wouldn’t do it with a baby in my arms, it doesn’t go in your plan

Something For You

If you’re looking for a gentler way to approach bedtime, here’s a simple wind-down ritual I often recommend:

5-Step Wind-Down for a Calm Bedtime:

  1. Dim the lights 30 minutes before bedtime

  2. Quiet play or two short books

  3. A warm bath or calming massage

  4. A feed or cuddle, unrushed

  5. A consistent bedtime phrase:
“You’re safe. I’m here. It’s time to rest.”

Used regularly, this helps babies and toddlers feel secure which is the foundation of better sleep.
